No Mess Removal

It is not ideal to have mess when using a menstrual disc. Who has time for that?!
We are here to help when it comes to using your menstrual disc and managing your period without the mess and stress.
When you have been used to using tampons or pads that absorb your menstrual fluid and contain it in this way, a menstrual disc seems like messy business, because it collects it. So it is very different in this way. But also, it is really empowering to 'face your flow' and understand what is going on in your body. It's actually super normal and empowering!
But on heavy days, what do you do with a full disc, how do you you make sure removing it doesn't end up like a crime scene?
It is totally possible, will take some practice if you have a really heavy flow and our tips below and our support team are here to help.

Helpful considerations-
Consider the disc like a little drawer, on heavy days with high flow, when you pull that drawer out and if it is very full, then yep, it can seem like 'a lot!' But with knowing this, you can find ways to avoid it ending up all over your hand and everywhere. 😅
Mess and faff is not ideal and something we don't have time for, so here are our hottest tips to help you figure things out.
1. Shower Power-
Removal in the shower is key! The best tip we discovered was to  never remove the menstrual disc at all during the day. On heavy flow days you can empty the disc without fully removing it- this helps A LOT!! But it is so easy to jump in the shower to remove it, rinse it and reinsert it. We even take our water based lube into the shower, because it makes insertion so quick and easy and helps get the right fit every time. The shower the way we say!

2. The Easy Empty Method-
You are able to semi empty your disc without removing it- this is a lifesaver on those heavy days and means you're not caught in a public bathroom with a messy removal. See our video here on this-

This is quite different to a period cup. You also need to make sure you wipe well if you have a heavy flow. Mika explains why in the video link there about this 'Easy Empty' method. It takes a little practice to find your mojo, but it will mean that your disc isn't so full when you do a full removal, ensuring less mess and no disc overflow.

3. Removing it fully over the toilet-
You can gently bear down first to untuck the disc from behind your pubic bone, allowing blood to empty into the toilet. Then use your index finger to reach in, find the handle and remove upwards slowly and carefully. Mika explains this in the main video here. It is helpful to have have a little piece of toilet paper on your knee ready to put the disc on and carry to the sink. Make sure to keep your fingers up and out of the way.

Hopefully this gives you some new ideas to try, it is a whole different way of managing our period, but with more practice after a few cycles, you really find your Hey Zomi mojo.
